PRIMARY FUNCTION

Teachers will plan and deliver meaningful learning experiences, create opportunities for maximum educational and social development, and work with all members of the school community to create a nurturing and structured environment for each student enrolled at New Heights Academy Charter School.

Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Department Chairs, and Student Support Services Team

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

10 months

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement curriculum and create performance tasks aligned to the Common Core Standards;

• Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards;

• Use interim assessment data to enhance curriculum and inform instructional practices;

• Participate in professional learning communities, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions;

• Communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues;

• Have extensive content knowledge including how to differentiate and level questioning.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive teaching and instruction program.

• Provide appropriate and effective learning experiences for pupils from a wide range achievement levels.

• Effectively assess the instructional and educational needs of pupils, and design, develop, and implement sound instructional and educational programs.

• Provide a motivating and stimulating learning environment.

• Perform research and development activities pertaining to curriculum and instructional programs.

• Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions.

• Make independent decisions.

• Organize tasks, set priorities and meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks.

• Respond appropriately to evaluation and changes in the work setting.

• Focus on converging core content and student need to increase knowledge.

• Develop supportive and caring relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A valid NYS teaching certificate.

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.

• At least 1 year prior teaching experience.

• Demonstrated success working in non-traditional and/or urban school settings.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Experience with educational technology (SMART Board, student laptops, etc.).

• Willingness to learn and grow professionally.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• More Time in School: Extended day and school year focused on academic learning and unique enrichment activities.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $61,070.00 - $72,076.00 per year
