GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The position is in the Special Education Program Division's Continuous Improvement Team. Responsibilities include planning, coordinating, managing, and evaluating IDEA improvement activities such as monitoring, technical assistance, and professional development. The consultant will support the general supervision responsibilities of the Department of Education as outlined in IDEA and assist in and support the goals, mission, and work of the Wyoming Department of Education, the Special Education Programs division, and the Continuous Improvement team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Develops and implements state-level activities for educational programs.
  • Monitors programs for compliance with regulations and provides feedback to districts or sub-grantees.
  • Identifies potential problems and devises solutions.
  • Disseminates professional trends by presenting information at meetings, workshops, and/or conferences.
  • Develops strategic planning for cross-agency collaboration and agreements to meet agency objectives and implement new programs.
  • Due to changing federal regulations, responsible for interpreting and making policy recommendations and analyzing the impact of federal and state decisions on efforts to organize and develop systems.
  • Plans and conducts workshops and training on state and/or federal programs.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to individuals with education in special education
Preference may be given to individuals' with leadershipexperience,
Preference may be given to individuals with knowledge of data systems,
Preference may be given to individuals with assessment, special education, and professional development.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of IDEA and Wyoming state statutes relating to the rights of students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of research design, data analysis, and practical application to large-scale assessment development and implementation at state and local levels.
  • Knowledge of educational best practices to improve student outcomes.
  • Knowledge of interpersonal communications.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
  • Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.

NOTES:
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • Travel is estimated at 25%
  • Applicants may be asked to provide transcripts of any relevant coursework at the time of the interview or hire.
  • Successful candidates must pass a fingerprinting, background, and reference check.
