Position Title: Family Pantry Coordinator

Position Summary
The Food Pantry Coordinator is responsible for providing increased access to food assistance for underserved and vulnerable communities throughout the state of Delaware. The Healthy Pantry Center in Newark was created to increase direct access to food and community resources to clients with a significant focus on fresh produce access and nutritious food choices.
Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Continually develop and enhance partnerships with healthcare and community partners for program expansion and client resources
- Work with FBD’s Nutrition Educators (both WIC and SNAP), DFW Instructors, program staff and students, SNAP Outreach, Stand By Me Financial Coach, and Senior Nutrition and Mobile Pantry Coordinator. Additionally, other external partners statewide to develop a robust access to resources for families participating in HPC
- Work with existing FBD infrastructure (including the Operations, Programs, and the Volunteer departments) to enhance redistribution of fresh produce effectively and efficiently
- Ensure appropriate paperwork and security practices are in place to maintain and track client information accurately; reporting all progress and project outcomes as necessary
- Create a safe and respectful environment for assistance to clients
- Provide necessary grant information to Development department in an accurate and timely manner
- Work with Operations department to ensure appropriate and timely restocking of product
- Develop and maintain processes and procedures for successful client recruitment and operation of the Healthy Pantry Center through the staffing base of volunteers
- Work with FBD SNAP-ed to update as necessary processes and procedures to maintain a pantry that provides an engaging atmosphere to promote nutritious food choices
- Develop a robust partnership base to offer community resources on a regular basis for pantry clients to provide assistance beyond direct food
- Work with Communications department to promote the awareness of the program with donors and community partners, particularly healthcare organizations for referrals and community resource initiatives
- Gain a thorough understanding of Healthcare Partner departments and office locations and services to identify maximization of referrals through the Healthcare Partners
- Work with FBD’s Nutrition Educators (both WIC and SNAP), Delaware Food Works Instructors, Food Distribution Team, SNAP Outreach, and $tand By Me Financial Coaches to cross solicit programming through the Healthy Pantry Center
- Work to enhance program procedures to ensure processes and resources are maximized to provide most efficient use of time and funds for FBD, Clients and Healthcare Partners
- Work with Volunteer Coordinators to identify a regular rotation of volunteers committed to the Healthy Pantry Program to provide quality and consistent service to clients
- Train volunteer base for appropriate client servicing in a respectful and safe manner
- Ensure appropriate stocking, storage and distribution to maximize servicing clients with food safe practices
- Monitor product movement to identify trends and appropriate level of stocking
- Collaborate with FBD Nutrition staff to implement and enhance nudges for nutritious product selection by clients
- Collaborate with Home Delivery Coordinator to identify necessary number of packages for each week to be packed for distribution in a food safe, timely and efficient manner
- Support Home Delivery Coordinator when assistance is required and/or full coverage is needed
Qualities and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent; degree preferred but not required
- 1 year of previous experience in community organizing
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Must have very strong initiative
- Must be able to work cooperatively in a team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills required with experience dealing with individuals from many different backgrounds and cultures
- Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite of programs
- General understanding of social service system and anti-hunger programs a plus
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, maintenance instructions and other documentation
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to communicate effectively in a written and oral manner
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where specific or only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule forms
- Ability to obtain certification to operate necessary warehouse equipment
- Must have or be able to obtain a ServSafe certification within one year of employment

- This position will work closely with the Home Delivery Coordinator, who is responsible for all home delivery efforts
- Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance
- Ability to establish a working relationship with donors, employees, member agencies and the public
Physical Requirements
- Working at a computer workstation, generally with a monitor, will be required
- The role will occasionally be exposed to warehouse and commercial kitchen environments
- Protective equipment must be worn when and where required
- All roles may require sitting, bending, lifting (up to 20 pounds), squatting and other minimal physical activity
