Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Nutrition Service Lead is a key resource in the workflow of food production, providing customer service to patients, and monitor for food safety compliance and adherence to department policies and procedures of the nutrition services department.
Essential Job Functions
Communicates with management to maintain the level of food quality that is expected and regarding food product that needs to be ordered for upcoming menus. Ensures daily communication between the day and night shifts regarding any items left on the prep list that needs completed. Communicates any issues to the staff which could affect the service before each meal period. Notifies vendors or manager when there are discrepancies in orders and tracks adjustments.
Ensures food is stored at the appropriate temperature for the appropriate length of time and follows all food safety standards. Maintains a clean, safe and sanitary workstation, equipment and utensils. Safely operates all kitchen equipment (slicers, ovens, steamers, variety of knives, etc.). Assists with checking for outdated products in cook’s cooler, tray line cooler, surrounding cook’s coolers. Oversees the daily cooling logbook to make sure there is adherence by staff. Monitors HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) standards.
Ability to perform job responsibilities of all staff positions.
Directs associates in all aspects of hot and cold food production.
Assists in both cross-training associates and training new associates.
Assists the Manager in overseeing workflow relating to patient care and customer service.

Licensing/Certification
Serv Safe certification required (or obtained with 6 months of date of hire)
Education
High School Diploma or GED (required)
Vocational/ Technical Degree (preferred)
Work Experience
2 years of experience in food production for large groups or healthcare food service (required)
