In collaborative practice with the Medical Director, attending physicians and fellows, the nurse practitioner will be responsible for providing independent clinical assessment and patient care management services for the Oncology Center patients. The Oncology Nurse Practitioner is a master's prepared oncology advanced practice nurse employed by UCLA Oncology Practices to assist in direct patient care. The NPII will be responsible for communication and feedback with patients, families, and referring physicians and will serve as an clinical care extender of attending Oncologists. Incumbent must be self-directed and function with minimal direct supervision.
Required:
- Graduated with an MSN/DNP Specialty in Adult Acute Care, Adult NP with Oncology Experience – required
- Current California Licensure as RN and Nurse Practitioner -required
- National NP Board certification in NP Specialty- required.
- Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) – preferred
- Oncology experience as an RN or NP - strongly preferred
- Current CPR/BCLS from AHA or ARC- required.
- Skills and abilities to perform accurate assessment and evaluation of oncology patients -required
- Skills and abilities to perform history and physical examinations of oncology patients -required
- Skills and abilities to develop and implement appropriate treatment plans under established protocols and physician supervision- required
- Ability to triage patients accurately after evaluating their vital signs, symptoms, findings, etc. -required
- Ability to intervene to deal with patients’ problems when physicians are not immediately available -required
- Ability to write clearly and distinctly so as to accurately and concisely communicate using the medical record or business correspondence -required
- Ability to use computerized appointment scheduling system - required
- Ability to use electronic health record (EHR) to obtain pertinent patient information -required
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision in the outpatient environment while performing a variety of tasks-required
- Ability to use computer for standard work processing, spreadsheet, and database functions in order to develop communications and to store necessary patient data -required
- Detailed background in oncology clinical medicine -required
- Knowledge and ability to organize, coordinate, and follow complex clinical regimens -required
- Skill in communicating and translating medical information to patients and their families, including giving patients and families an understanding of their medical condition and what they might expect in the future- required
- Knowledge and proficiency of the English language sufficient to read medical reports and records with comprehension and to prepare reports and correspondence-required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive patient information-required
Ability to interact effectively and communicate accurately with patients, colleagues and referring physicians-required
Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues-required
- Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload and frequent interruption-required
- Skill in delegating work for maximum efficiency-required
- Skill in prioritizing assignment to complete work in a timely and accurate manner-required
- Knowledge of Hospital policies and procedures related to functions and responsibilities of the position-required
- Supervisory skills to train, review work, evaluate performance, etc-required
- NPI: less than 6 months experience as NP rate of pay : $72.86/ per hour
