THE POSITION:
The Software Engineer Co-Op-AWS Cloud Applications, reporting to the Manager, IT- Software Engineering and Development, will design, develop, and maintain modern applications that power Barrett’s world-class 3PL software capabilities.

You’ll be responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with Barrett’s vision to WOW our customers, partners, and fellow employees with every interaction.

YOUR DAY TO DAY:

  • Participate in design and development of Barrett applications, including Barrett APIs, Barrett Next-Generation Web Portal, Barrett NetSuite Connector, Barrett Shopify Connector, and supporting underlying services.
  • Contribute architecture recommendations for Barrett applications.
  • Collaborate with other team members spanning across teams as well as other organization units.
  • Continued refinement and improvement of existing applications.
  • Write scalable, performant, readable and tested code.
  • Participate in technical decisions and collaborate with talented peers.
  • Review code, implementations and give meaningful feedback that helps others build better solutions.
  • Write documentation.
  • Refine our technology stack, processes, and standards.
  • Take responsibility and ownership of project timelines and deliverables.
  • Responsible for developing applications and processes in a manner to provide an exemplary Internal & External customer experience.
  • Responsible for documenting and implementing ongoing configuration changes in Synapse and related systems to support changing customer requirements.
  • Works conjunctly with Internal Teams and External Customers to investigate/examine needs, issues, and concerns about current and future warehouse processes.
  • Assist with applying business process improvement practices to re-engineer methodologies/principles and business process modernization projects.
  • Develop and maintain proper documentation of systems configuration and changes.
  • Resolve issues in a timely, accurate, and customer service focused manner – ensuring issue is properly documented in appropriate IT Service Desk Tools
  • In conjunction with Information Technology management, manage systemic improvements as they occur.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional travel to Team Offsite Meetings, Customer Meetings, and Vendor events as required.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TABLE:

  • Enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar subject area.
  • Recent relevant coursework and/or 2-5 years of experience in Software Development, IT Management, or related technical discipline required.
  • Relevant experience in a logistics setting, or at a technology provider focused on the logistics industry, is preferred.
  • Direct experience building cloud native applications using NodeJS, JavaScript, AngularJS, and other related technologies.
  • Direct knowledge of a cloud service provider, AWS is preferred. Direct experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
  • Knowledge of automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, NoSQL, JSON and XML.
  • Working knowledge of web development technologies such as HTML5 and SCSS.
  • Working knowledge of agile software development lifecycle.
  • Direct experience supporting a Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) package, or a Tier 1 ERP system with an advanced WMS module.
  • Strong SQL Skills, Oracle Platform preferred
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of supporting Supply Chain technologies & standards including UPC/GTINs, GS1/UCC128 Labeling, VICS Bills of Lading
  • Proficient in all Microsoft business applications such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Must demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills and both verbal and written communication skills with ability to work well under pressure and problem solve across a variety of business processes. Strong analytical skills with an ability to present views in a convincing, creative, clear, and impactful manner.

Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines. Strong emphasis on organizational skills and attention to detail.
