REI is looking for a Web Software developer Intern to contribute to REI’s success by working as part of a cross-functional team and actively participate in day-to-day functions of the IT department. Throughout the course of your internship experience, you will own and drive a challenging and relevant project to solve real-time business challenges. Under the supervision of your Manager, and as a key member of the IT department, you will gain insights into the key functions of your team as it relates to REI’s broader strategy and vision.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Web Software Engineer to join our Content and Experience Management Platform (CEMP) team. This team builds and maintains tools and services that are the foundation for REI.com and other cross-channel services. Non-Local Candidates:
Relocation assistance & intern housing are not provided for this role- all costs & arrangements will be the responsibility of the intern for the duration of the internship
Duration:
- 10-12 weeks (mid-June – early September)
Job functions include:
- Develop content tools and services that deliver exceptional experiences for our customers
- Collaborate daily with software engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver new capabilities
- Assist in gathering, analyzing, and translating business and non-functional requirements into a solution design
- Develop to specification and maintain application code in accordance with the current development
methodologies and practices. - Prepare required documentation for the portion of work assigned, with review
- Create and give a presentation to their business group at REI of the project they worked on over the course of their internship.

Qualifications and expectations:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree (or recently graduated within 6 months of internship start date) in Computer Science or related field.
- Interest and passion for REI’s values, mission, and vision and a curiosity and drive to learn new technologies
- Interest in professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Knowledge and proficiency with JavaScript, standards compliant HTML5 and CSS3. Knowledge of front-end frameworks, tools, and bundlers (currently we use Vue.js, NPM, Node.js, WebPack, Rollup, Mocha, Chai, to name a few) preferred.
- Knowledge and proficiency with web application technologies like Java or other high level OOP languages
- Proficiency with IntelliJ and MacOS
- Interest in data structures
- Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
- Communicates effectively in both verbal and written means.
- Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions to support the direction taken by others at REI.
- Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions.
- Works smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well to produce quality work.
- Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals.

As required by applicable Pay Transparency laws, REI provides the compensation for roles that may be hired in locations under these requirements. The pay for this role is: $30.00 per hour.
